Challenges for Li-ion batteries
for automotive applications

Abstract:
Li-ion battery technology is a very important topic for Bosch, since these accumulators are already in use in different Bosch products. With the application as traction batteries in cars new challenges arise, especially with respect to the specific energy which controls the driving range of the electric car.
Also the life time requirements for Li-ion batteries in cars are very demanding (300000km, 15 years), meaning that it is necessary to understand the aging phenomena very well. In the talk the different aging mechanisms in Li-ion batteries are discussed and several methods how to analyse the aging of Li-ion batteries are introduced.
